The vice -president of the US Federal Election Commission, Republican James Trainor, who was in Romania, announced on Saturday night that the United States Ambassador, Kathleen Kavalec, has chosen to retire and leave. “It was not withdrawn, it is not recalled,” Trainor explained.

Asked at the Observatory News about the possibility of withdrawing the ambassador Kathleen Kavalec, James Trainor replied: “No, it was not withdrawn, it is not recalled,” reports News.ro.

He said, according to the simultaneous translation during the interview, that Kathleen Kavalec “reached the retirement age and chose to retire and announced that he would retire.”

“So he will leave as an ambassador from Romania, but he has no connection with the policy,” concluded the American official, located in Bucharest on the occasion of the presidential elections.

Kathleen Kavalec took the oath as an ambassador of the United States in Romania on December 20, 2022.

Previously, in the period 2019-2022, he led the OSCE mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. Previously, he held the position of deputy assistant of the Secretary of State within the Office for Europe and Eurasia of the State Department.

Career diplomat, Kavalec has held a variety of diplomatic functions, including director for Russia, permanently deputy and deputy head of the US diplomatic mission to UNESCO, in Paris, Deputy Coordinator for US Assistance for Europe, Eurasia and Central Asia and director for conflict prevention within the Coordinator's Office for Reconstruction and Stabilization.

Among the countries in which he carried out his activity are Ukraine, where he had the position of political counselor, Russia, with two mandates in the political field, as well as missions in Romania and Brazil.

In Romania he held the position of cultural attachment, between 2005 and 2008.
