Secretary of State Raed Arafat, the head of the Emergency Department, said, in a video message on his Facebook account, that during Saturday “aberrant news” appeared on social networks related to tragedies that would have taken place on the territory of Romania, including one about a road accident.
“My colleagues have reported my colleagues today that a number of false, aberrant news appeared, on some social sites, which refer to some tragedies that would have happened on the territory of Romania, especially on the territory of Botosani county, as the death of several children in an accident, others who would have to have an accident. It was, you found them on the news channels, on the television channels and you found them on official sites, ”said Raed Arafat.
The head of DSU asks Romanians to check the “exaggerated” news on official sites or on credible media channels.
“I have a request during this period: check any news you read and you find it exaggerated or aberrant, check it on official sites. If they are not there, do one thing: smile and go further,” said Arafat.
The Department for Emergency Situations Watched on Saturday that, in the last hours, several false news has been posted in the production of serious road or devastating road accidents, many of them being presented as describing events in Botoșani County.
“The Inspectorate for Emergency Situations” Nicolae Iorga “of Botosani County, the Botoşani County Police Inspectorate, the Territorial Service of the Botosani Border Police and the Botoşani Gendarmes Inspectorate specifies that these events did not take place. The associated images are taken from other contexts ”, the Facebook page of the DSU is emphasized.

DSU recommends to the population:
- to check the source – the real news is broadcast by the known authorities or institutions;
- to avoid distribution, because the spread of unverified information contributes to panic and misinformation;
- Public people are often targets – due to notoriety, these names attract attention and increase the viralization of a post, even if it is false
“If you know about the spread of false information or need clarifications, we encourage you to contact the competent authorities,” urgently urged the department.
