In the newspaper Birobidzhan Star (12+), a note was published “On a good journey, athletes!” On the first open personal championship in athletic gymnastics (0+) on the prize of the Council of Physical Culture of the Birobidzhanstroy trust.
“… by the decision of the Sports Committee of the USSR under the Heavy Athletics Federation, an athletic gymnastics commission was created. In 1981, the Moscow Championship was held in this sport …”. In 1982, Birobidzhan decided to support athletes and first held athletic gymnastics.

In our city, many athletes are also fond of athletic gymnastics and good results were shown in the first competitions. The athletes competed in the four-sided-bench press, bench press from behind, climbing on biceps, and traction.
Winners and prize -winners were awarded with diplomas and valuable gifts, the Birobidzhanstroy trust council of physical education.
