The head of the President's Cabinet Marcin Mastalerek assessed on Tuesday that the president's speech at the election convention of Karol Nawrocki was a great decision. According to him, Andrzej Duda is guided by the defense of 10 years of his own presidency and that the changes he began to continue.
On Sunday, the president, as a special guest, took part in the convention supported by PiS candidate for president Karol Nawrocki. During his speech, Duda mobilized PiS activists and Nawrocki supporters and encouraged to support the financial campaign. He also declared that he would vote for Nawrocki in the May election.
Mastalerka was asked in this context in Polsat News whether President Duda often changes her mind. It was reminded that Andrzej Duda declared several times earlier that he would not participate in the election campaign in the presidential election and no candidate.
The head of the president's office assessed that “a change of sentence is nothing extraordinary.” He expressed the belief that President Duda “is a consistent politician who was right many times.”
He recalled cases in Polish and American politics when the incumbent presidents gave their support in the campaign.
“I think that above all the president is guided by the defense of his own presidency, 10 years, and that the changes he began to be continued. He made such a decision, I think it is a great decision and I will always defend her,” said Mastalerek.
He said that social programs, including 500 plus, modernization of the Polish army and foreign policy and a strict alliance with the USA “were started thanks to President Duda” and it was a big change. “So the president decided that such a moment of campaign came, the circumstances changed, political circumstances,” he said. “(Earlier) we did not know the facts that come out, and we did not know what it would all look like. Now the president, knowing this, simply made such a decision,” he added.
He argued that “if someone gets 10.5 million votes and becomes president, they can support someone or not support someone.”
“I heard the great booting in the PO, that at the PiS convention (president) was. After all, Rafał Trzaskowski would invite President Andrzej Duda, give him a rostrum. And I am convinced that the president then will come and give such a speech that they will remember them until the end of the Civic Platform, and in fact they will be able to lead the banner. They decided because President Duda is overwhelming (President of Warsaw, KO candidate) Rafał Trzaskowski, surpassed (premiere) of Donald Tusk, but they can try their happiness, “said Mastalerek.
“The speech of President Duda was a Gamechanger. He showed the president's strength that he was a world politician. If the staffers were so careful that today they were arguing, who knew and who did not, although they do not have to argue, it could simply be spin after – mastalerek” – he added.
He noted that he knew earlier that Duda was to be at the convention in Łódź. (PAP)
