Deepseek returns to Korea. Chinese chatbot has been banned since February

The Deepseek application, the Chatbot of Artificial Intelligence (AI) of the Chinese start -up, returned to stores in South Korea – the Yonhap agency informed on Monday. In mid -February, the authorities ordered it to be withdrawn due to the incompatibility of the principles of collecting personal data with national regulations.


The South Korean Commission for Personal Data Protection (PIPC) decided on February 15 to temporarily withdraw the application after it turned out that Deepseek transferred the personal data of Korean users to companies in China and the United States without their consent and appropriate information.
PIPC also drew attention to the fact that users introduced by users to Volcano, a Chinese company associated with Bytedance, the owner of the Tiktok.
In response to the allegations, Deepseek introduced amendments, establishing separate additional provisions for South Korea users. and committing data processing in accordance with the Korean Personal Data Protection Act.
“Deepseek said that PIPC will fully comply with and present the results of repair and improvement recommendations within 60 days,” said PIPC official.
The Chinese model AI Deepseek caused controversy shortly after the premiere at the beginning of the year. In connection with the concerns about the issues of data privacy and threat to national security, the authorities of several countries, including Australia, Taiwan, Italy and South Korea. banned or limited access to service in government agencies, public schools or state -owned enterprises. There were also accusations of tracking users and potential transfer of data to the Chinese government, which the company did not deny.
