Vacation with a dog on the Baltic Sea: new climate fee

Germany introduces a climate fee for quadrupeds. As reported by the German tabloid “Bild”, this decision will particularly affect tourists from Germany, but also Poles who are going to the German coast.
As the O2.pl portal writes, the climate fee for dogs was introduced in many popular towns on the German Baltic coast, especially in Mecklenburg-Pomerania. For example, you have to pay 2 euros a day in Binz on Ruga for a dog.
“We pay almost 11 euros a day together with a regular climate fee. This is really a big expense, especially since the only benefit are stations with bumped bags” – tourists complained in an interview with “Bild”.
Mareike and Axel from Hanover have similar feelings. “For a week we paid over 70 euros the climate fee itself. Two euros a day for our bitch is a really high price” – they emphasize.

– binz and prora: 2 euros
– BREEGE/Juliusruh: 0.80 euros
– Dranske: no fees
– head: 0.50 euros

On the island of Uznam, popular among Polish tourists, climate fees for dogs are not valid at the moment.
What are revenues from fees intended for?
Local authorities argue that revenues from fees are used to maintain infrastructure for dogs, such as service stations with bumped bags. An example is Baltrum, where the mayor of Harm Olchers allocates 1.5 euros per day from a dog for this purpose.
Will the fees become the norm?
Tourist experts from Ruga predict that climate fees for dogs may spread to other regions, such as Schleswik-Holsztyn or Lower Saxony. In the future, finding a place without such additional costs can become a challenge.
For Polish tourists who choose German beaches for holidays with pets, these changes may mean the need for more accurate budget planning.
