During 2024, ZUS registered 25.5 million medical certificates in the whole country about temporary incapacity for work, which made a total of 253.5 million days of sickness absence at work.
According to the latest data of the Social Insurance Institution, in 2024, 25.5 million e-release went to the register of ZUS medical certificates, i.e. and it was by 300,000. sickness certificates more than in 2023. These were exemptions for both own illness and the title of childcare or other family members.
The vast majority were in this list E -release from own disease – 92 percent total, a total of 22.2 million medical certificates. Most exemptions were spent on January and October, when 2.4 million certificates in each of these months were registered in ZUS systems.
On average, due to their own illness, the insured in ZUS stayed in the whole year 33.60 days, and the average length of the medical certificate for their own illness was 10.83 days. For years, the advantage of certificates issued to women has been clearly maintained, their number is indirectly related to the absence of pregnant women. Usually, the percentage of medical certificates issued to women is over 55.5 percent. In 2022, it amounted to 55.5 percent, in 2023 – 55.7 percent, in 2024 – 55.5 percent all certificates.
Insured at the age of 30 and 39 was the longest on sick leave, the percentage of the number of days of absence was 26.4 percent. In the case of men's absence, 24.9 percent Days of absence concerned insured between the ages of 40 and 49, and 22.8 percent. men between 50 and 59 years old. In the women's population, women aged 30-39 arrived on dismissals, the percentage of days used by the insured was 30.3 percent.
ZUS data shows that in comparison with the previous year in 2024, doctors more often issued short exemptions. Due to own illness, it was 9.5 million certificates of up to 5 days. In this pool, 1.7 million were one -day layoffs.
The most common causes of incapacity for work remain unchanged for several years regardless of the region of the country. These include: musculoskeletal and connective tissue diseases (41.8 million days of disease absence), respiratory diseases (33 million days), injuries, poisoning and other specific effects of external factors (32.5 million days), pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium (31.8 million days), mental disorders and behavioral disorders (30.3 million) with Covid-19 (1.7 million days).
ZUS data shows that there has been a clear increase in pouring. Both the number of medical certificates issued in this respect and the number of days of sickness absence increased over 30 times. Due to the increased number of sick leave, expenditure on sickness absence increased. In 2024 they amounted to over PLN 31 billion. In 59 percent They were covered by the Social Insurance Fund, while the remaining scope was incurred by employers and the guaranteed employee benefits fund. (PAP)
