North Korea presented a new “multi -purpose”, equipped with “the most powerful weapon” destroyer for the Navy, named Choe Hyon in honor of the deceased revolutionary fighter – said the KCNA agency on Saturday. The launching ceremony took place at the Port of NamPho, in the presence of Kim Jong Una and his daughter.

According to regime media, a ship with a displacement of 5000 tons was built at a record pace of about 400 days “only by forces and the use of North Korea technology. The unit is to strengthen air defense, the ability to combat submarines and surface ships. It can also be armed with strategic maneuvering and tactical ballistic missiles.

Kim Jong Un stated that the destroyer would strengthen the ability to “accurately defend maritime sovereignty” and is “an important step towards maritime power.” He emphasized that “the strength to aggression is directly proportional to the deterrence force” and announced the construction of further ships of this class, larger cruisers and escort ships, as well as the development of “atomic submarines”.

In addition, the North Korean leader accused the United States of “conducting aggressive exercises simulating nuclear attacks” on his country, as part of joint operations with South Korea forces.

“We will definitely respond to these geopolitical changes and trends, we will take appropriate remedies,” said Kim.

Experts cited by the South Korean Yonhap agency pay attention to the ship's equipment with a vertical start systems, Aegis radar and an advanced artillery system. “It seems that the ship moves dozens of VLS chambers capable of firing various types of rockets, including maneuvering missiles,” said Jong Won deputy, a former military reporter. According to him, North Korea strives to build platforms capable of carrying out nuclear attacks from the sea.

The South Korean General Staff stated that he was monitored with North Korea together with the USA.
