The cancellation of the participation of Rubia and the Messenger of the US President Donald Trump to the Middle East Steve Witkoff reduced the rank of the meeting. The US Department of State explained the absence of the ruble with logistics issues, but according to the Washington Post daily, the reason was the cool reaction of Ukrainians to an American proposal, providing, among others Recognition of the Russian annexation of Crimea by the US.
The United States was represented in London by the envoy of President Donald Trump for Ukraine Keith Kellogg. The Ukrainian delegation was presided over by the head of the Chancellery of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelanski Andrij Jermak, who arrived with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrij Sybiha and the Defense Minister Rustami.
“The conversations were marked by emotions”
The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski admitted that the talks were marked by emotions and expressed the hope that future joint work would lead to peace. “Emotions were great today. But it's good that five countries met to bring peace (…) The American side shared their vision. Ukraine and other Europeans presented their contribution” – he wrote on Platform X.
Kellogg described conversations as positive. “Time to move on regarding the Directive of President Trump regarding the Ukr-Ru war: to end up killing, achieve peace and put America in the first place,” he said.
Jermak announced, however, that Ukraine would remain in its position in terms of territorial integrity and sovereignty. “I emphasized that in all circumstances Ukraine will stick to its basic principles during negotiations, because they are the basis of our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he wrote.
Diesow assessed that the conversations were fruitful. “We talked about our consistent position on the suspension of weapons, as well as safety guarantees. I think the meeting was very productive and successful,” he said.
Ukrainians also met in London with advisers for foreign policy of the so -called Coalitions willing – Great Britain, France and Germany. It was the second meeting of this kind, the previous one took place last week in Paris. Further regular consultations have been agreed to achieve peace – said Jermak.
The British Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on behalf of the authorities of Great Britain, France and Germany that the talks were productive and “significant progress was achieved in striving for a common position on further steps.” Participants agreed to “continue close cooperation and expect further conversations in the near future” – he added.
Donald Trump's attack on President Zelanski
Meanwhile, Trump once again attacked Zelanski in social media, assessing that his exclusion of the legal recognition of the annexation of Crimea is “very harmful” for negotiations with Russia. He also assessed that he was “very close to the agreement” and called Zelanski, whom he called “a man without playing cards” so that he would “finally do it.”
A spokeswoman for the White House Karoline Leavitt told journalists that Trump is “frustrated” with a low rate of conversations, and Zelanski “seems to go in the wrong direction.”
Earlier, the deputy Trump JD Vance stated that the US presented Ukraine and Russia a “very clear proposal”, according to which the demarcation lines would run near the current line of the front. He warned that in the event of a refusal the United States “would withdraw from this process.”
According to the sources of Reuters, Witkoff is to meet Putin on Friday to talk to him for the fourth time about the end of the war. Sources reported that the American proposal assumes not only the recognition of the annexation of Crimea, but also the acceptance of Russia's control over the areas it occupied, constituting 20 percent. Ukraine's territory, as well as the exclusion of admission of Ukraine to NATO and the abolition of sanctions at Moscow.
