The State Forests respond to the allegations of the Left candidate for President Magdalena Biejat, who during a press conference in Starogard Gdański criticized the institution for lack of cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense in the implementation of the Targe East program and for neglect in the field of nature protection and water retention.

The spokeswoman for the State Forests Anna Choszcz-Sendrowska told PAP on Tuesday that the work on the agreement of the East shield went according to the schedule that the parties determined for the analysis of the document and the development of entries.

“This type of cooperation requires time and prudence in making decisions that can affect nature protection, forest management and the law in this respect. It is not true that the State Forests do not want to engage in the state defense strategy. On the contrary. On the contrary. On the contrary. Finalization of work and signing an agreement on the east shield will take place tomorrow at the headquarters of the Ministry of National Defense,” she said.

She added that the State Forests in cooperation with the Ministry of National Defense also implement many other projects – from activities on the eastern border, through joint training, to information exchange.

“We believe that cooperation between the Ministry of National Defense – the State Forests is implemented at a very high level, which translates into Poland's security” – she emphasized.

Speaking of issues related to the fight against drought and water retention, Choszcz-Sendrowska pointed out that the State Forests have been conducting a number of projects for years that they have obtained EU funds.

“Our actions are focused on preventing the formation or minimization of the negative effects of natural phenomena such as the destructive effects of flood water, floods and flooding, drought and fires,” she said.

She added that a symbolic example of foresters' struggle for saving valuable natural marsh forests is Stalowa Wola, where in the heart of the Sandomierz Forest about 1,000 Ha is to be cut to make room for the industrial investment zone. “It is foresters who are fighting to stop this clipping,” she emphasized.

The spokeswoman also said that the State Forests run the largest peat bog protection program in Europe. She explained that as part of small mountain and lowland retention programs, thousands of facilities were built – including retention reservoirs, culverts, valves – which allow you to stop millions of cubic meters of water in the forests.

In addition, as part of the “Forests for wetlands – protection of hydrogenic habitats in valuable natural (GMOK)” areas, it has been planned to restore functions or maintain the condition of swamps, peat bogs and other wetlands on a total area of at least 10,450 ha.

“It is worth noting that the facilities created under these projects in the areas in the State Forests Board operate and constantly retain water in the forest” – she noted.

Referring to the issue of the Biebrza National Park, the spokeswoman pointed out that “the Biebrza Valley is a natural reduction” – these are vast swamps, peat bogs and meadows, located very low in relation to the surrounding area.

“The middle and lower Biebrza lies at an altitude of about 100-120 m above sea levels surrounding forests (e.g. Biebrza or Augustów forests) often lie higher, often within 130–170 m above sea level, especially on the edges of the valley. Gravitational drainage of water from Biebrza to the surrounding forests is usually impossible, because the water will not go up.”

The spokeswoman also emphasized that the forces and funds of the State Forests are involved in the activities related to extinguishing the fire in the fire of the fire in the Biebrza National Park.

“Foresters extinguish the fire on the shoulder with firefighters, policemen, soldiers and park guards. At the moment there are 5 fire -fighting firer helicopters and one firefighter aircraft Dromader. Foresters patrol the area and provide connectivity to aircraft fighting with fire. State forests also made available to other services: cars: cars: cars: Patrol and firefighting, mufflers, hydronettes ” – she said.

On Tuesday, during a press conference in Starogard Gdański (Pomeranian Voivodeship), the left -wing candidate for president Magdalena Biejat referred to a fire in the Biebrza National Park and appealed for recognition of wild nature as critical infrastructure and to protect it with adequate protection.

Biejat criticized the lack of cooperation between the State Forests and the Ministry of National Defense as part of the Targe East program. She also emphasized the need for immediate activities in the field of renaturization.

“Today, the fact that it is so dry that we are struggling with subsequent fires in meadows and peat bogs, it results from the fact that the State Forests fail to fulfill their obligation to renaturize and maintain humidity in the soil. This applies primarily to the liquidation of ditches and drainage channels, which today drain water from both Białowieża Forest and Biebrza and other green areas,” she said. She announced that she would intervene in this matter and ask if the State Forests intend to get involved in the implementation of the country's defense strategy. (PAP)
