Following the death of Pope Francis, the Government of Romania, led by Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, will decrete the national mourning day for Saturday, April 26, 2025. The decisive meeting will take place on Thursday, April 24, 2025, informs Freedom. For this reason, the parties in Superliga and Liga 2 could be postponed and rescheduled for a later date.
In the Government meeting on Thursday, the Executive will decide that Saturday will be declared a national mourning day in Pope Francis. According to the law, all sports manifestations should be postponed.
The parties in Superliga and the 2nd League on Saturday are in danger of playing!
However, there is a previous: Between December 14-16, 2017, when Romania had three days of national mourning in memory of King Mihai, the government allowed the scheduled matches, so that the parties were played according to the established calendar.
According to the law, “The national radio and television stations, as well as the cultural institutions, must adapt their programs, and all the cultural, artistic and sports manifestations for mourning days are postponed.”
Under these conditions, the parties scheduled on Saturday in Superliga and the 2nd League are in danger of disputes, That is, if the Executive does not, as in 2017, a derogation.
