In front of the White House, the protesters displayed banners with messages like “The power must be of the workers”, “we do not want a dictatorship”, “Stop the arming of Israel” and “Respect the right to a fair trial,” According to images distributed in the US press and social media.

Some protesters have chanted in support of deported or threatened migrants with the deportation by the Trump administration and have expressed solidarity towards the dismissed employees. Also, the financing of several universities are endangered, Reuters says.

“As Trump and his administration mobilize the US deportation apparatus, we will organize resistance networks and systems to defend our neighbors,” said a participant in a rally in Lafayette Square, near the White House.

Other protesters waved Palestinian flags, wearing traditional keffiyeh scarves and chanting “Freedom for Palestine”, in solidarity with the victims of the war in the Gaza Strip.

Some of them wore pro-Ukraine symbols and asked Washington to adopt a firmer position against the Russian invasion led by President Vladimir Putin.

Since taking over the second term in January 2025, Trump, supported by billionaire Elon Musk, drastically restructured the federal administration: he fired over 200,000 employees and tried to abolish more government agencies.

In addition, the Trump administration has deported dozens of foreign students and threatened to cut the financing of universities that support diversity programs, initiatives for climate or pro-palestinian protests. Human rights organizations have firmly condemned these measures.

Near the Washington monument, banners with messages like “Hate never made a great nation” and “Equal rights for all do not mean fewer rights to you” were displayed by protesters.

Similar protests also took place in New York and Chicago as well as in dozens of other American cities.
