The owner of Facebook and Instagram will use the posts of adult users in the EU from May 27 to develop his AI model. The finish will download the data unless you express active opposition. This is a complete departure from the previously understood data protection – Aleksandra Wójtowicz's analyst said PAP.

In addition to public posts and comments, Meta will also use users' interactions with its new AI model, which in the EU began to operate in March this year. The company will not use private messages for family and friends, as well as data of persons under 18 years of age.
The meta justifies the project of training the AI model based on the data of European users with the need to adapt it to the cultural and language specifics of the EU countries, so that it is able to recognize, for example, humorous content or sarcasm. “We have a duty to create artificial intelligence, which is not only available to Europeans, but is actually created to them” – the company wrote in a statement.
From this week, users of the finishing site began to receive notifications with information about what data will be used to develop the AI model and how it will affect the way of using the company belonging to the company. The message also includes a link to the form, which is used to exclude from the finish design.
However, NGOs dealing with the protection of personal data indicate that discharge requires active opposition, which is incompatible with the GDPR. “After a year of opaque conversations with European regulators, META begins to train the AI model, ignoring the consent (users – PAP). This breaks the data protection provisions” – wrote in the statement Noyb organization, which announced a lawsuit against the finish.
According to some analysts, the writing process is deliberately complicated. “Link operates only on a computer, not in the application on a smartphone, which is most often used for communication on social media,” a digital analyst said PAP of the Polish Institute of International Affairs, Aleksander Wójtowicz.
“This means that the finish will assume your data, unless you express active opposition. It is a complete departure from the personal data protection understood so far,” she added.
Although in the US the AI model has been operating since 2023, in Europe it has been introduced with delay due to the fears of European regulators related to data protection and privacy.
According to Wójtowicz, the finish decision made despite the opposition in the community shows the growing assertiveness of American Big Techów during the presidency of Donald Trump. “They clearly take actions with more confidence whose idea is contrary to the Law in force in the EU,” she said.
