The Black Sea continues to be a first-rate goal for Russia, says German Security expert, Claudia Major, in an interview with the Swiss newspaper Blick. And the states of the Black Sea do not have the advantage of placement in the “heart of Europe”, as the expert points out that it is Switzerland.

Both Ukraine and other Eastern countries, and eventually the whole Europe are in great danger, believes major. She recalls that whatever Russian negotiators say, “the main cause of conflict is one: the fact that Russia rejects the sovereignty of Ukraine and tries to control it.”

And this desire of Putin to dominate has not changed. Europe must take note of the fact that its ally, the US, is moving away.

“Trump has been willing to exert pressure only on Ukraine so far. Not on Russia. Until now, Trump has directly negotiated with Russia, over the head of Ukraine, as if the country would no longer be a sovereign state. Putin saves appearances but keeps attacking

The German expert believes that “at present, everything indicates that Russia uses negotiations to win another way. Russia continues to attack. Moscow has learned so far that aggression is worth continuing, it will not be punished.”

“From the perspective of Russia, there is no incentive to stop now. Russia does exactly what to do to keep the US in the game, while saving appearances. For the moment, this seems to be enough for the US.”

And behind appearances is a huge danger to Europe: loss of security. “If the US wants to normalize relationships with what NATO considers to be the biggest threat to European security, namely Russia, then the US is no longer a security guarantee. The US is becoming more and more a threat to Europe's security. Especially since Russia allows Russia to learn the lesson that the war is worth it.

There is no need for an unlikely formal withdrawal of Trump from NATO for Europe to take what is happening. “Europeans must assume that the US will withdraw from their role of central security power in the defense of Europe. This does not mean that they will withdraw from NATO. They do not have to lose NATO by simply playing its traditional role and no longer ensures political leadership, no longer pressing opponents for compromises and no longer mediates disputes.”

The signal of Europe: We speak seriously!

“The Americans have so far have been the main promoters of air defense and missile, cyber defense, electronic war and long -range precision weapons. Europeans either have little of all, or they don't have at all,” said German expert in Blick interview.

“The purpose of Russia is to divide Europe, to incapate it and, finally, to destroy us,” believes major. And accepting aggression means establishing the “law of jungle and the change of borders”.

The solution is only one: like Europe, a continent with an incomparably larger cultural, political and economic force than Russia, a huge market with a relatively small deficit and technological ability to finance defense, to point out to the Kremlin that he speaks seriously when he says he will rapidly and massively increase the ability to respond.
