Superliga: revenues of 114 million euros for Romanian clubs in 2024, this being the best result from the beginning of the pandema

The clubs in Superliga had increasing revenues in fiscal year 2024, the total amounting to 570 million lei, about 114 million euros, shows from a financial report published by the Romanian Football Federation (FRF), on its official website.
Groups working in season 2024-2025 in Superliga reported the best net cumulative result from the beginning of the Covid-19 Pandemic, notes Agerpres.
“The year 2024 has brought a significant improvement in the financial plane for the clubs in Superliga, which reports the best net cumulative result from the beginning of the pandemic. The clubs in Superliga registered total revenues of 570 million lei (114 million euros) in 2024, marking an increase of 81 million lei (16 million euros) from the previous year. Sponsorships and advertising, UEFA funds and subsidies. Advertising leads (29%), followed by TV rights (22%) and tickets (16%) ”, writes in the FRF report.
An essential factor in this positive evolution was the intensified activity on the transfer market, which generated revenues of 92 million lei (18 million euros), 68 million lei more than in the previous year.
The clubs have made a substantial progress compared to 2023. Although a loss of 65 million lei (13 million euros), it is 69 million lei lower than the previous year.
The expenses with the staff reached 448 million lei (90 million euros), up 13% compared to 2023. These costs represent 79% of the operational income, excluding the income from transfers. The general operational expenses were kept constant, worth 270 million lei (54 million euros), signaling a more efficient cost control.
Although Superliga clubs are still facing negative equity of 193 million lei (38 million euros), they were improved with 100 million lei compared to last year.
The total debts decreased slightly, reaching 773 million lei (155 million euros) at the end of 2024, decreasing by 4%. In particular, the loans were reduced by 50 million lei, reaching 350 million lei, while subsidies and income in advance amount to 250 million lei. The value of players in the balance sheet increased compared to 2023, reflecting continuous investments in competitive lots.
A positive aspect of 2024 is the increase of investments in the academies of children and juniors. Superliga clubs allocated a total of 65 million lei (13.1 million euros) for the development of young people, which means an average of 4 million lei per club (0.82 million euros). This represents an increase of 14% compared to 2023 and an increase of 85% compared to 2019, when the average was only 0.44 million euros/club.
Five clubs – FC Rapid, Craiova University, Constanța, FCSB and Sepsi OSK – contributed 59% of the total budget allocated to children and junior centers.
For the year 2025, the clubs estimate a total increase in allocations by 24% compared to 2024, which reflects the commitment of the first league teams for the sustainable development of Romanian football through investments in future generations.
