HegeSeth called France to take responsibility for the defense of Europe

The head of Pentagon Pete HegeSth met on Thursday with the French defense minister Sebastien Lecorn and called France to take on himself, together with other allies, the main responsibility for the conventional defense of Europe, the American Ministry of Defense said.

“The minister (Secretary of HegeSeth) called on France to increase defense expenditure and, along with other NATO allies, to take the main responsibility for the conventional defense of Europe,” it was written in a message after a meeting of ministers in the Pentagon. The topics of roses were also “efforts for lasting peace in Ukraine”.

HegeSeth repeated a call, which he first delivered during his first trip to Europe, including Poland. He said then that America would not be more “the main guarantee of security in Europe”.

The meeting took place at the same time when in Paris US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and a special Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff had a meeting with France President Emmanuel Macron and representatives of the UK authorities and Germany about negotiations regarding the war in Ukraine. (PAP)
