Nicușor Dan, an independent candidate for presidential elections, announced on Tuesday evening that his Instagram and Tiktok pages are subject to an attack, as thousands of new followers and positive comments appeared in 24 hours. The mayor claims that this is “a masked attack” as the networks will notice the unnatural growth and limit the real reach of the candidate's pages.
Nicușor Dan announced, close to midnight, that the “suspicious activity” on his social media accounts was expanded on the Facebook social network.
“Two of the posts exceeded 100,000 distributions, a complete disproportionate number compared to the number of users who have viewed these posts,” the mayor wrote.
He adds that his team reported this situation to the main platforms, and “tomorrow morning we will notify the competent authorities”.

The mayor of the capital claims that, although the situation apparently helps him, in fact the efficiency of his online campaign could be affected.
“When Instagram or Tiktok detects sudden unnatural growths, they consider it manipulation. As a result, it limits the real reach, ie the posts reach fewer authentic people. The page can be marked as” risky or “suspicious”, and this affects everything we publish, “wrote Nicușor Dan.

He said he consulted specialists who told him that the apparent promotion is actually a sabotage.
“False followers and comments do not help us. It sabotages us. It is a strategy used to seem to be trying to manipulate the online, but in fact we are the target of an attack,” concluded the candidate.
