Solidarity lesson: The exciting reaction of some elephants after an earthquake that shook California

When an earthquake occurs, people turn away and shelter. But the elephants are put in formation.

The African elephants from the Zoo in San Diego instinctively formed a protection circle around the youngest family members in the seconds that followed the 5.2 magnitude that hit the Southern California on Monday.

The phenomenon, known as “alert circle ”, It appears when a flock feels the danger and gathers around younger elephants to protect them from threats, writes USA Today.

A video recording distributed by San Diego Zoo Safari Park shows Ndlula, Umngani and Khosi elephants surrounding young Zuli and Mkhaya after the earthquake disturbed the peace of Monday morning. The elephants remained tightened around the younger elephants for about four minutes before breaking the circle, but remained nearby.
