On Monday, at the meeting of the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Luxembourg, the subject of the imposition of another, 17th packet of sanctions on Russia will appear. This is related to recent rocket attacks on Ukraine, in which many civilians were killed.

The head of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kestutis Budrys told journalists on Monday morning that in his opinion this package should include liquefied natural gas (LNG) and the Russian state nuclear concern Rosatom.

Although the European Union has imposed 16 sanctions on Russia, the import of hydrocarbons from this country is covered only by partial restrictions. The price limit for the import of oil from Russia is bypassed using the so -called shadow fleets, old tankers floating under the flags of other countries that provide raw material to other countries. EU sanctions were imposed on some shadow fleet ships, but some are still beyond their reach. Learned gas from Russia is still going to EU LNG terminals.

Peter Szijjarto also said at the conference that Hungary would not agree that any part of the so -called The European Union training mission for Ukraine was implemented on the territory of Ukraine, because it would threaten the escalation of war.

In December, the European Union extended the operation of a training mission for Ukrainian soldiers until November 2026. Her budget for two years is EUR 409 million.

The purpose of the mission is to strengthen the abilities of Ukraine's armed forces to defend the country. It provides training of soldiers at the basic and specialist level in the field of, among others medical assistance, removal, logistics and communication, as well as the maintenance and repair of military equipment. Training takes place in 24 EU countries.

The mission also provides training for younger officer staff in the field of command at various levels and operational training, and advises on planning, preparing and conducting exercises using acute ammunition.

The training mission for Ukrainian soldiers was established in October 2022.
