Former Peruvian President Ollanta Humala, aged 62, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for money laundering in the corruption scandal related to the Brazilian giant of Odebrecht, AFP and Reuters, quoted by Agerpres.

Ollanta Humala is the second of the four former Peruvian presidents who was involved in this vast business that led to dozens of political and business leaders in Latin America.

The conviction occurs for more than three years from the beginning of the trial against Humala, who led Peru from 2011 to 2016. Defense immediately indicated that he would appeal the decision.

Ollanta Humala's wife, Nadine Heredia, also followed in this file, was also sentenced to 15 years in prison. Absent at the hearing, the judge ordered its arrest.

In October 2024, another former 78 -year -old Peruandro Alejandro Tondro President was sentenced by a court in Lima to 20 years and six months in prison for corruption and money laundering in the Gigant's scandal in the field of Odebrecht.

According to prosecutors, the former President Peruan (2001-2006) took bribes $ 35 million from the company previously known as Odebrecht, in exchange for granting a contract for the construction of the road that now connects the southern coast of an Amazon area in western Brazil.

He claimed that he was innocent after the disclosures made in 2016 by the Brazilian group of American justice about a vast regional corruption system aimed at obtaining public contracts.

In this file were involved two other presidents from Peru, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski (2016-2018) and Alan Garcia (2006-2011), who committed suicide in 2019, when he was about to be arrested on this case.

Odebrecht was the most cited company in the vast anti -corruption investigation Lava Jato who sent dozens of political leaders and heads of companies from Latin America. According to the US Department of Justice, Odebrecht has distributed 788 million in about ten countries in Latin and two in Africa for more than a decade.
