The Kremlin spokesman claimed on Monday that Russia strikes only military or army targets, when asked about the attack launched by Russia on Sumî, where at least 34 people were killed.
“In this case, we are talking about the progress of a special military operation, here we have to focus only on the information provided by our defense department. You know that we do not comment on the progress of the military operation itself,” said Dmitri Peskov, quoted by the Russian press agency TASS.
“I can only repeat and remind you of the repeated statement of our president and the representatives of our army that our army strikes exclusively military and quasi-military targets,” added the Kremlin spokesman.
Ukraine announced on Sunday that two Russian ballistic missiles killed at least 34 people and injured another 117 at Sumî. Russia's attack on the city of Sumî on Sunday of Flowers was launched 48 hours after Donald Trump's emissary met with Vladimir Putin for discussions.
Steve Witkoff spoke on Friday with the Russian president for four hours, according to Russia's state media, which is the latest round between Washington and Moscow.
The rocket bombings hit a central area of the city, crowded at that time, because many people were heading to the church, at the flower service. One of the attacks hit a trolleybus full of passengers.
In his first reaction, US President Donald Trump qualified as “terrible” the Russians, but said he was told “they made a mistake”, without detailing who was transmitting it.
“I think it was awful, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it is a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing (…) For this war to have started it is an abuse of power. This country would never have accepted that this war to start if I was a president.
