The convict chose this execution method instead of a deadly injection or electric chair. The verdict was made by three volunteers. It was the second execution by shooting in this state within five weeks. The man was recognized as a deceased less than four minutes after shot fired.

Mahdi confessed to killing James Myers, an officer of public security services from Orangeburg, in 2004. He shot him at least eight times and burned his body. He also confessed to killing Christopher Boggs, a seller at a grocery store in North Carolina.

The recent appeals of the convict were rejected by the United States Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of South Carolina. Prosecutors emphasized Mahdie's aggressive behavior, including attacks on prison guards. The man's defenders referred to his traumatic childhood.

Mahdi is the fifth prisoner lost in South Carolina from September, after a thirteen -year break. His execution is twelfth in America this year. In 2024, 25 prisoners were lost in nine states.
