Nicușor Dan stated, at Antena 3, that he was not involved in the decision of the USR leadership to withdraw Elena Lasconi the support for the presidential elections in favor of the mayor of the Capital. But he said that the decision is “correct one”, the stake being the orientation of the country after the elections.

“I did not have any involvement. I know that for Elena Lasconi is difficult on a personal plane because she had a campaign, a work she took,” said Nicușor Dan answering a question about the announcement of the USR leadership.

“We are in a different context”

He invoked the recent polls that showed that George Simion and Victor Ponta have the highest chances of entering the second round of presidential elections, which has radically changed the political context in which the presidential elections are held.

“We are in a different context because there were polls that said that in the final there is a risk of being Victor Ponta and George Simion and now we have to show responsibility,” said the mayor of the capital.

Nicușor Dan also invoked the statements of Ponta and Simion, after which, if they are elected, both will call Călin Georgescu prime minister.

“Victor Ponta or George Simion can block partnerships with allies, help for Ukraine … It is not about me or Elena Lasconi, this is the direction in which the country goes, and from this point of view the USR decision is correct,” said the mayor of the capital.

USR leaders decided on Wednesday to withdraw the support given to the president of the formation, Elena Lasconi, in the presidential elections in May and to support Nicușor Dan, invoking that there will be a 2 George Simion-Victor Ponta. Elena Lasconi announced will go further with the candidacy and has launched several attacks on those who voted for withdrawing support, calling them “opportunistic traitors” and “loseri”.

“It is not a decision that we made easy. It is a decision in which we are confident that there is a majority of all Romanians who will not tour 2 Simion-Ponta. We cannot put in the first place.

Elena Lasconi said, in a press conference organized on Wednesday, that the National Political Bureau does not have the power to withdraw her support in the presidential elections, but only the USR Congress. She said she would go on with the candidacy and launched several attacks on those who voted for withdrawing support. Elena Lasconi said that after the election campaign is over, “she will probably seek justice” for the decision taken in the political office on Wednesday.
