What happened on Thursday night

The USR leaders who went out public on Wednesday and announced their support in the election campaign for Nicușor Dan on Thursday evening an important new step for the party to be applied for the candidacy of Elena Lasconi. They convened an informal political committee, of which parliamentarians, MEPs, presidents of county branches and sector are part.

The Political Committee confirmed by vote the decision of the National Bureau with a majority of 75% of the votes expressed.

225 votes of a total of 248 were expressed. Of these, 168 were in favor of supporting Nicuşor Dan (75%), a number of 50 members ruled against (22%), and 7 abstained (3%)

Elena Lasconi announced that she sued them, accusing them of “abuse done with the Bolshevik methods”.

On Wednesday, she excluded a withdrawal of her candidacy and said she would stay at the party leader.

According to her, the decision of the National Bureau of the USR not to support it in the presidential elections represents “a political execution hidden under a party formalism.”

Moșteanu said that there are no statutory issues regarding the withdrawal of political support for Lasconi, as it received the support of the Congress for the 2024 candidacy, not for the 2025.
