Patient Ombudsman Bartłomiej Chmielowiec initiated the proceedings after information that patients with pancreatic cancer, to receive modern treatment at the National Medical Institute of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, had to make donations at the foundation operating at the Hospital.

On Monday, the health market and Wirtualna Polska published the results of a journalistic investigation, which shows that patients with pancreatic cancer to receive modern treatment at the State Medical Institute of the Ministry of Interior and Administration had to deposit several dozen thousand zlotys as part of the donation to the foundation operating at the hospital. Patients who did not make a donation were to be most often operated in a classic way, giving worse effects of therapy. This practice was to last from at least 2022 to 2024.
The Patient Rights Ombudsman assessed on Tuesday that the practice described by journalists is unacceptable. In the post on portal X, he emphasized that the selection of the treatment method should only be determined by medical and not non -medical criteria, including the organization of services. He informed that in connection with this, the MPC decided to initiate proceedings regarding the possible violation of collective patients' rights. He noted that the case would be controlled and analyzed in detail.
The spokesman of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Jacek Dobrzyński announced on Monday that the sound material from 2023 was handed over by journalists. He noted that by the Ministry of Interior and Administration's decision, an inspection would be sent to the hospital.
The health market and Wirtualna Polska pointed out that the foundation at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Interior and Administration in Warsaw is not subject to the hospital. It was created to support the hospital financially. The article notes that the National Health Fund finances operations on the pancreas with a classic method, while the operation using the robot is more expensive, and according to the law the difference is covered by the hospital.
