USR Vice President Dominic Fritz said on Wednesday, after the decision of the National Bureau of the Party to support Nicușor Dan in the presidential elections, that the USR will not be able to finance its campaign, but will call on the donors. Elena Lasconi will remain on the voting bulletin as a candidate from the USR as the date for the completion of the candidates has been exceeded, and the way they will show the ballots has been established. Even if Elena Lasconi decided to withdraw, her name would have remained on the ballot, as it happened last year, with Ludovic Orban.

Fritz said, in a press conference, that he announced Nicușor Dan about the decision for the party to withdraw the support for Lasconi and to support the mayor's candidacy for the May Presidential Election. The decision will be formalized in the following days, with the convening of the National Political Committee of the USR, on April 24, when the decision taken by the party leaders will be formally validated.

“I called him last night after we received the last digits and it was clear that we would meet for this discussion, I called Nicușor Dan. It was not a long call, we did not negotiate.
He said that USR will not be able to finance Nicușor Dan's campaign, but that he will get involved and call on donors.
“We, as a party, cannot finance his campaign, but of course each of us will be involved. We will approach also donors with whom we have collaborated in the past and we will be able to borrow money for Nicușor Dan's campaign. Before this step this political committee has to validate this decision,” Fritz said.
