US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he will impose additional tariffs to China, starting on Tuesday, April 8, if Beijing does not give up the 34% response tax applied to the US imported goods, the BBC reports.

Trump said the new rates against China would be 50%.

“Yesterday, China issued a 34%retrsency rates, in addition to already record rates, non -monetary rates, illegal subsidization and massive long -term currency, despite my warning that any country responds against the US by issuing additional rates, in addition to our long -term tariff abuse, Substantially larger, in addition to those initially established Countries, who have also asked for meetings, will start to take place immediately.

The announcement comes after the Chinese government on Friday decided to apply a 34% rate for all American goods, starting April 10, as a mutual measure to the new taxes imposed by Washington.

On Wednesday, Donald Trump announced an additional 34% fee for all Chinese products imported to the US, which adds to the 20% fare previously imposed in order to reduce the import of fentanyl from China to the US.

Asia stock markets reacted strongly on Monday, registering significant decreases. The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong decreased by 8% in the first hours of trading, and the shares of Chinese companies Alibaba and Tencent lost over 8%.

“Investors have to take their medicine,” Trump said previously, adding that he will accept an agreement with China until the US trade deficit will be resolved.

The Chinese government reacted by saying that the “markets have been pronounced” about Beijing's plans.

According to Sean Callow, FX analyst at ITC Markets Sydney, “the only stop mechanism is President Trump's iPhone, and it gives little signs that the market collapses are sufficient to reconsider a position in which it has been believing for decades.”
