The incident took place in the city of Culiacán, an area affected by constant violence between two rival factions of the Sinaloa drug cartel. Since September, since the tensions have grown, hundreds of victims have been registered in the area.
According to the official report, an armed group forced the entrance to the rehabilitation center and opened the fire, killing eight people on the spot and hurting six others. The balance of people killed on Monday, however, increased to nine, after one of the wounded died at the hospital, according to Agerpres.
The Monday attack is the seventh this way committed on the rehabilitation centers in the region since the outbreak of internal violence in the Cartel, in September. Until January, these struggles caused at least 750 deaths and led to the disappearance of about 900 people.
The Cartel from Sinaloa was founded by Joaquin “El Chapo Guzman”, which is sentenced to life imprisonment in the United States, and Ishmael “El Mayo” Zambada, arrested in Texas in July.
After the main leaders were sent after the bars, the cartel is crushed by internal fights, the loyal camp “Mayo” accusing the sons of “El Chapo”, known as “los chapitos”, that they had a role in capturing and extraditing their father to the American authorities.
