Action of Russians in the North Pole
Two Mi-8 MTB helicopters were used in the action, which covered the route from the base located on the archipelago of the North Earth islands to the North Pole-42 research ship located at the 85th degree of northern latitude.
Due to the distance of about 1 thousand km, the operation was a big logistic challenge. The whole lasted four days, and the drifting base was about 500 km from the geographical North Pole.
At the beginning there was the so -called A technical flight to a small island 400 km from the North land, where 900 l spare fuel was stored. At the same time, the second helicopter flew directly from Cape Baranow in the North Earth to the research ship. There he refueled and returned. In total, helicopters made six flights.
Russians in the waters of the Arctic. The first such action
The first round of flights included the delivery of equipment and supply, and the next transported a group of researchers – informs the Russian Institute of Arctic and Antarctic Research. Sergei Kuznecow from Krasavia emphasized that the airline has experience in flights in arctic conditions, but for the first time he flight to a drifting research station.
Earlier, the replacement of the crew and supplies of supply to the ship took place as part of comprehensive logistics operations with the participation of icebreakers, such as the research vessel of the Triosznikow dormitory. As the Barents Observer portal reminds, in 2023 the Triosznikov dormitory sailed about 6,000. km to reach the north-42 Pole.
