Marco Rubio responds to the Danish prime minister. “Nobody annexed”

Rubio, who on Friday after the meeting of foreign ministers of NATO countries in Brussels, met with American journalists, repelled the allegations of the premiere of Denmark Mette Frederiksen, that it was unacceptable, that one of the allies in NATO threatens the other taking over the territory. – Well, nobody annexed anything. The decision will belong to the Greenlanders – said Rubio.
The Secretary of State of the US said that also the American vice president JD Vance, who came to Greenland last week, expressed clearly that he intends to “respect the law of the Greenlanders to self -determination.”
“Ok, we can create a partnership with you”
Rubio noticed, however, that at some point it was the inhabitants of the island who made it clear that they want to be independent of Denmark. – Denmark should therefore focus on the fact that the Greenlanders do not want to be part of it. We did not give them this idea because they have been talking about it for a long time – said the Secretary of State of the USA. He added that if, however, the inhabitants of the island decide to break away from Denmark, then the United States will potentially be ready to enter and say “OK, we can create a partnership with you”.
To journalists' questions, why in that case President Donald Trump said that he did not rule out the takeover of Greenland by force, Rubio replied that the president was misunderstood, because he meant that he did not intend to exclude the American army, if Greenland was attacked by a foreign power, such as China or Russia.
The relations between Washington and Copenhagen are recently tense due to the regularly repeated announcements of President Trump that Greenland, the autonomous dependent territory of Denmark, should become part of the United States.
On Thursday in Brussels, Rubio met with the head of Danish diplomacy Larske Rasmussen. In the conversation, the issue of American claims against Greenland was also raised. Rasmussen later said that he conveyed Rubio that “Trump's statements reached a level that was not in line with international law” and that he had the impression that he was “heard”.
