The Greek Ministry of Culture has refused the request of the Greek director Yorgos Lanthimos, nominated five times at the Oscar awards, to film in the Acropolis in Athens, considering that the stipulated scenes do not correspond to the image of this historical site, informs the AFP agency, quoted by Agerpres.
Yorgos Lanthimos is one of the most famous directors in the history of Greece and directed in 2023 the film Poor Thingswho won four Oscar awards in the following year, including for the best actress in the lead role (obtained by Emma Stone), after already awarding her prestigious gold at the Venice Festival.
The 51 -year -old Greek filmmaker who has many other prizes won in the United States and Europe, has requested an authorization to film some scenes in his new film, an SF production entitled Bugoniaalso with Emma Stone in distribution, in the Acropola in Athens, in April.

However, the Greek Ministry of Culture explained in a statement published on Thursday that it refused the request for authorization because “the proposed scenes are incompatible with the symbolism” and “the values that the Acropolis represents.”
According to the Greek press, the targeted scenes would involve several corpses scattered in the perimeter of Acropolis in Athens.
The Ministry of Culture said that it offered the director the opportunity to film in several alternative places near the site, which is one of the most famous in Greece.
Launching the film Bugonia It is scheduled to take place in November. Yorgos was nominated 5 times at the Oscar award as a director and producer, for 3 of his films: The Lobster (2016), The favorite (2018) and Poor Things.
