According to New Straits Times, eight people, including four children, died on Monday near the capital of Sabah, Kota Kinabalu, after a landslide hit an unofficial settlement. The same day, three other people – including a 10 -year -old girl – died in Gana, located about 100 kilometers east, AFP reports, taken over by Agerpres.

Last week, a 97-year-old man lost his life in Penampang, being surprised by another landslide.

The abundant rains, which affect the state of Sabah for more than ten days, flooded the low areas and caused landslides that destroyed housing and infrastructure.

More than 2,000 people from the low areas around Kota Kinabalu were evacuated preventively, emergency services announced.
