US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that the unprecedented entrance to Russian drones on the Polish territory is “unacceptable”, as well as “regrettable and dangerous”, but that it remains unclear if Moscow has deliberately sent the drones to the Polish space, reports News.ro citing Reuters.
“There is no doubt: the drones were intentionally launched. The question is whether the drones had a specific objective of entering Poland.
Rubio also said that if it is proved that the drones have been directed to Poland, “it is obvious that it will be a movement that will lead to an escalation of the conflict.”
The head of American diplomacy made these statements to journalists before going to Israel and the United Kingdom.
NATO announced plans to strengthen the defense of the eastern flank of Europe on Friday, after Poland broke drones that had violated its air space, being for the first time that a member of the Western Alliance opened fire in the Russian War in Ukraine.
Also on Friday, Poland rejected President Donald Trump's suggestion that incursions could have been a mistake, being a rare moment when the US president was contradicted by one of his closest European allies. Poland's Foreign Minister told Reuters that Poland hopes Washington to take action to show solidarity with Warsaw.
On Friday, at the UN, the United States qualified violations of air space as “alarming” and promised to “defend every centimeter in NATO.”
Russia said that his forces attacked Ukraine at the time of drones and that he did not intend to hit targets in Poland.
