Jolyon Palmer (34 years old), former Formula 1 pilot, raised a very important question after the team order issued by McLaren, just before the end of the Italian Grand Prize.

Throughout the entire race in Monza, Lando Norris remained in front of his teammate Oscar Piastri, but after a slow stop, he was surpassed by Australian. Subsequently, the leader of the general ranking received instructions to transfer the position of his teammate and his only real rival in the fight for the world title.

Piastri complied with this order, although initially it was not fully agreed. Subsequently, the Australian explained that the order was correct, but this raises an interesting question about the fight between him and Norris until the end of the season.

Jolyon Palmer commented on the McLaren Team Order: “It was not fair for me to make such decisions from the box”

“It seemed like a hasty move to maintain the correctness, which, in general, cannot be done in motor sports. From time to time, things go wrong, as it was seen with Norris's abandonment, and not always the situation can be corrected to be fair.

McLaren is very likely to have to answer difficult questions repeatedly. What would have happened if the two were on first places and two? Would the Oscar have been asked to give up the position and would have done it?

What will happen if there is a similar situation in Abu Dhabi? Will one of them give up the position then if this is decisive? And will he have to do it? For this reason, it was not fair for me to make such decisions from the box, after the extraordinary battles I have seen since the beginning of the season between the two pilots and their teams.

I do not deny that Lando was worth finishing in front of Piastri, based on his pilot, for him the situation was also strange. As a pilot, you never want to win through the box orders, you prefer to do it correctly on the track and maybe that Oscar has accepted the order and its third place. The team things seemed harmonious after the end, so probably everything is fine.

At McLaren, they will definitely hope that by the end of the season everything will be simpler, otherwise uncomfortable decisions will have to be made. It will be difficult for everyone in the team to be happy, especially when the title is at stake, ”said Jolyon Palmer, according to Sportal.bg.
