The students from Sibiu start school on the stadium. Parents rejected relocation to a non-compliant building

About 200 students of the “Il Caragiale” High School will learn at the Municipal Stadium, after parents and teachers opposed the children to move to a building considered non-compliant.

The students of the “Il Caragiale” High School will learn at the Municipal Stadium: Sibiu City Hall
The “Il Caragiale” High School in Sibiu is to be thermally rehabilitated, and the local authorities have proposed to divide the students into two locations: five classes will be moved into containers to another educational unit, and another seven will be relocated to the stadium.
The City Hall intends that, most likely this winter, the Municipal Stadium will become a learning space. The classrooms will be arranged by delimiting walls in the existing spaces and equipped with school furniture.
The mayor of Sibiu, Astrid Fodor, explained that there are still steps before the students start the courses on the stadium: “I have to We purchase the five containersto make the changes on the stadium, to obtain authorizations from ISU, from the Antitero Brigade, from the Gendarmerie ”said the mayor, according to Antena 3 CNN.
Building rejected by parents
Initially, the local authorities announced that students will be moved to a building where a private university had previously operated. However, the parents who visited the space discovered major problems.
“The windows were low. Think about the windows in the bathrooms, on the staircase. There was a single toilet bow”, Said Andrada Horsi, Father.
Other parents expressed their concern about children's safety in case of emergency: “The worst scenario for us was that of an emergency evacuation. God forbid, how we evacuate 15 adults, teacher ladies, 350 children between the ages of 8 and 10“, Explained Raluca Mitea, the mother of a student.
The beginning of the year with postponements
Until the completion of preparations for the new spaces, the children will start the school year in the current building. Consequently, the thermal rehabilitation works will be postponed.
