The regrets of the Romanians returned home from the West: “I have an even bigger hatred, than when I first left”

Many Romanians who come from abroad with the thought of continuing their lives in the country are facing a reality that leaves them a bitter taste. Although they tell that they felt encouraged to return, they eventually get to regret the choice.

The period of summer holidays are approaching the end, and many Romanians in the country for a few weeks of holidays have already left in the West or are preparing to make their luggage. Some leave Romania with the thought of returning at least on future holidays.
Others tell on social networks that they have more serious plans: they want to return, once and forever “at home”. However, for some of the Romanians who have already taken the return, the experience was not as expected, and one of the main reasons, they say, are Romanian patrons, considered tougher and more misunderstanding.
The strange story of a bus driver
A young Romanian who worked as a bus driver in Germany has widely reported why the return to the country left a bitter taste.
“I arrived in Romania, and recently I started working as a driver again, but here I do racing between counties, tour. To see what problem I have. the young man reported.
In Germany, he says, he could even announce a minute before the start of the laps that he can no longer come to work, and this was not a problem.
“Such situations made me understand that, although I have family and friends here, I do not find myself in this country”, concludes the young man, in a message published on Reddit.
Another Romanian returned to the country said that he has gone through a similar experience.
“They called me to work in work, from my free time, just because they had no people. Neither do you leave you alone, you have to come to work, regardless of the situation. They are masters of slaves, and you are just a number: you get sick, you are” Pa “… Another in place. You are not insured from any point of view.” he says.
Another young man reported that he decided to return to Romania only on holidays, longer than he had before leaving the country.
“I worked at a telecommunications company in Romania. Not only did I not receive a meal vouchers, under the pretext that I had no direct superior, I was more or less my chief and, therefore, they could not count the work schedule, but I had only 19 days of leave. leave ”, he told him.
His mother did not resist too much in Romania, he adds.
“The mother worked for 19 years in Italy. She only resisted one year after she returned to Romania and then left again. If you got used to there, Romania will never seem ok,” He believes.
Fears of Romanians return home
Some Romanians reached find other reasons for upset. One of them complains that he is pressed for fears.
“You never know, when you go out on the street, if someone will get you on the pedestrian crossing, if you bite you a dog, if you are robbed, beaten or, more recently, attacked by the bear. Or maybe ANAF gives you a fine“He says.
He adds that he returned to Romania after almost 10 years spent in the West, but is preparing to leave the country permanently.
“I still hear friends saying that it is better in Romania, that it was more digitized, that people are different. Reality? Since I returned, I got to have an even greater hatred than when I first left.he believes.
Another Romanian returned to the country says, in his turn, that every time he arrives home it seems to be worsening.
“Now I am at the airport and I can hardly wait to fly from Romania, just to stop seeing so much stupidity, insensitivity, slope and misery around me.”he says.
A Romanian returned for five years from Western Europe says he regrets the choice, because of the low salary he receives, working at home.
“I have an extremely difficult job, whose price is the degradation of my health: back pain, eye, constant stress, traffic problems. I do sports almost daily, but it is not enough. I plan to leave the country as soon as possible.” It confesses on the Reddit platform.
Another young man says that, after almost a decade spent in Germany, in 2022 he returned to Romania and worked as a programmer in Cluj-Napoca, having a salary of 5,700 lei. He decided to return to Germany, not because he would not have adapted, but to follow his archaeologist's passion.
Life in Romania, for some better than in the West
However, there are also Romanians who have managed to continue their lives without great difficulties when returning home. A young man returned to Romania after almost ten years spent in Denmark says he does not regret the choice.
“I learned that each place has pluses and minuses, and its choice depends on the priorities you have at that time. It is important to have a job that gives you the same conditions. Otherwise, and abroad, if suddenly your quality of life decreases, don't easily adapt“He believes.
The same thing is felt by a Romanian returned from the United Kingdom.
“Here's safety on the street at almost any hour, people are much more sociable and open, there are several parties and a more pronounced entrepreneurial spirit, with more openness to news. Expenditure on children are lower and there are less worry about their safety, the real estate market is much more accessible, and the costs for the car, the car, the car, the car, he says.
In addition, there are low-cost flights to almost any destination in Europe, with shorter roads to the airport and quick formalities than those in the UK, he adds, and at medical clinics or other services you can make an appointment from one day to another, not months before.
Another Romanian, returned from England, believes that life is better here, because he feels “at home”, even though the passage of time has made changes.
“I do not have much in common with the former friends, who have seen their lives. On the other hand, I have the family close and I am glad to be with them. I cannot deny that, from time to time, I miss England, but, when I get there every two months, I have no desire to walk in London.” he concludes.
Why many Romanians get to regret the return to the country
Sociologist Valentin Fulger explains why some of the Romanians who return to the country after long periods spent in the West regret the decision.
“They come animated, after many years of work, to open a business in Romania, but sometimes, unfortunately – not infrequently – they hit some cruel realities, and I refer to a fierce fiscal policy, which causes many to close their business and to return to Romania. Another substrate, namely the fact that people really want to return to Romania, because here, for them, at home ”, said sociologist Valentin Fulger.
In recent years, often Romanians who have left Romania to work in the West have been assigned negative, slightly contemptible qualities from the point of view of the current political class, although they should have been viewed with more consideration, shows university professor Valentin Fulger.
“They were somehow considered broken by the Romanian realities, they were considered to be less Romanian than those who remained in the country, ignoring the fact that they are the ones who pumped in Romania for many years, billions of euros, managing to keep this country on the waterline.”add the sociologist.
