The National Prosecutor's Office announced on Wednesday about the prosecution of former head of the Ministry of National Defense, PiS MP Antoni Macierewicz, an allegation of disclosure in 2018-2022 of classified information regarding the Smolensk disaster. He faces up to 5 years imprisonment. Macierewicz did not confess and refused to explain.

“Prosecutors from the investigating team No. 4 of the National Prosecutor's Office presented Antoni Macierewicz, a deputy to the Sejm of the Republic of Poland and the former Minister of National Defense, the allegation of committing the crime of disclosing classified information, and then interrogated him as a suspect,” Przemysław Nowak spokesman said in the announcement.
He added that prosecutors presented Macierewicz with the allegation of disclosure in 2018–2022 classified information about the clause “Top Secret”, “Secret”, “Confident” and “reserved” and other protected data regarding the circumstances and causes of the Tu-154 plane crash in Smolensk.
According to the prosecutor's office, this was to take place in connection with the function of the chairman of the Smolensk subcommittee and a member of the State Aviation Aviation Accident Investigation Committee, by making public content from documents covered by these clauses.
“Antoni Macierewicz, interrogated as a suspicious, did not admit to committing the alleged act and refused to explain. In the case there was no need to secure the correct further course of the proceedings through the use of preventive measures,” Prosecutor Nowak added. (PAP)
