North Korean leader Kim Jong gave his hand on Wednesday with the president of the National Assembly of South Korea, Woo Won-Shik, the latter announced, Reuters reports.

The two shook hands in Beijing before the beginning of the great military parade by which China to celebrate Japan's official surrender in World War II.

Woo represented South Korea at the event. The President of the South Korean Parliament is the second man in the state, after the president and before the prime minister.

Like South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, Woo asked the resumption of dialogue between Seoul and Phenian after a very tense relationship period.

To date, North Korea has rejected Seoul's proposals and said she is not interested in discussions with South Korea.

Putin offered to send a message to Kim

Woo has also met President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, and the Russian leader asked if he had a message to send to Kim, Woo's office said.

Woo replied that, despite the difficult circumstances, it is “very important” at this time to build peace in the Korean peninsula.

Before leaving for Beijing, Woo had said that he was not sure if he could meet with Kim, but if he did, he would like to talk to the North Korean leader about how peace can be made in the Korean peninsula.

Several South Korean parliamentarians, including an old politician who has facilitated intercorrhean discussions in the past, have accompanied Woo in Beijing.
