Barcelona has announced an agreement with the Midea technology brand, which will become the sponsor on the team's sleeve.
For this partnership, the Catalans will receive a total of 60 million euros over a period of five years, according to Sportal.bg. The Chinese company will appear on Barcelona's equipment starting with season 2026-2027.
Midea, revenues of 50 billion euros in 2024
The company Midea, which has 190,000 employees and has generated revenues of almost 50 billion euros last year, ranks 246 in the Fortune Global 500.
“For FC Barcelona it will be an honor to include Midea in the big family, starting with season 2026-2027,” said vice-president Rafa Yuste, who presented the agreement, for the club's website.
“Their position as a leader in solutions for smart houses and their commitment to research and innovation match the FC Barcelona spirit, which looks to the future. This partnership once again demonstrates the power of the Barcelona brand as a magnet for companies around the world, who see in the club the best platform for their projects.”
The agreement stipulates that the Midea logo will appear on the shirt sleeve, in the place currently occupied by Ambilight. Midea is specialized in the production of household electronics and also sponsors the Manchester City club.
This is a new movement of “blasphemy” to increase its revenues from sponsorships. Recently, the club renegotiated its contract with the Nike equipment provider, and Spotify became the main sponsor on the shirt.
The new agreement comes after the one worth 44 million euros signed with the Democratic Republic of Congo, whose logo appears on the other sleeve starting this season, as well as the training equipment. Barcelona has attracted criticism for its business relations with RD Congo because of the precarious human rights situation in that country, which creates a contradiction with the values and the image that the club claims to have.
