

“Estonian volunteer Olev Roost died, fighting for the freedom of Ukraine. […] He fought in the ranks of the 3rd regiment of special operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ”said Colonel Rivo Meimer, the commander of the MTO Estonia MTR.
He said that Roost in the Estonian Scout battalion participated in operations in Afghanistan in 2011 and 2013, and in 2017 joined the MTR and in 2020 took part in the operation in Mali.
Russia served in the command of special operations of Estonia, but in 2023 he left the service of his own free will and voluntarily went to fight for Ukraine, Meimer noted.
“His experience and courage helped others feel safe on the battlefield. He went abroad to protect the world in his homeland, risking his life and giving everything to the war did not touch us,” explained Estonia.

The President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky announced the creation of the international legion on the fourth day of the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation, on February 27, 2022. He called on foreign citizens to “join the protection of security in Europe and the world.”
The Foreign Ministry of Ukraine in March reported that they were going to Ukraine Volunteers from 52 countries who will join the international legion to combat Russia's invasion. The department noted that the Ukrainian authorities received about 20 thousand applications from them.
The speaker of the international legion said that the legion Volunteers from all continents joined, but did not name their exact number. “We have representatives of 55 countries from all continents, even such far as Brazil, South Korea, Australia,” he said.
