Nvidia announced on Monday that her new chip module for robotics, Jetson AGX Thor, is available for sale as a kit for developers, at the price of $ 3,499. The first deliveries will start next month, and the company describes the product as a true “brain for robots”, reports CNBC, taken over by News.ro.
After the prototype stage, customers will be able to purchase the Thor T5000 modules for ready -made robots. For orders of over 1,000 units, NVIDIA will apply a low price of $ 2999 on the module.
General director of Jensen Huang stressed that robotics is the biggest opportunity to grow the company, after the artificial intelligence segment, which has tripled NVIDIA sales in the last two years.
“We do not build robots and do not build cars, but we offer hardware and software infrastructure for the entire industry,” said Deepu Talla, Nvidia vice president and Edge Ai.
Jetson Thor is based on the Blackwell graphic processor, also used in the company's and gaming chips, being 7.5 times faster than the previous generation.
The chips have 128 GB memory, which allows them to run advanced generative models and interpret the environment – a key requirement for humanoid robots.
Companies using NVIDIA chips include Agility Robotics, Amazon, Metaz and Boston Dynamics.
Although robotics currently represents about 1% of the total revenues of NVIDIA, the field increases rapidly: the car and robotics division has reported in more quarterly sales of $ 567 million, up to 72% compared to the previous year.
The new Thor chips will be used for autonomous cars, especially by Chinese manufacturers, under the name AGX Drive, adapted for the auto industry through the Drive OS operating system.
