The Visma-Lease A Bike team was the victim of the thieves on the night between Sunday and Monday, after 18 bicycles, totaling about 300,000 euros.

According to Italian publications, the team may have to borrow spare parts or even bicycles so that the athletes can start in the third stage from “Vuelta a Espana”.

Visma-Lease a bike confirmed theft by a message on social networks, specifying that the police opened an investigation. However, the team did not provide exact details about the number of stolen bicycles, their value or if the incident will affect the participation of athletes in the third stage.

The large steal comes shortly after the spectacular victory of Visma's leader Jonas Vingegaard, who won the second stage from Limone Piedmonte and took over the red shirt.

Also on the same morning, the Visma team confirmed that the French sprinter Axel Zingle will have to abandon the race, after accusing problems caused by a shoulder dislocation, suffered from a mass fall in the last kilometers of the second stage. In that incident he was involved in Vingegaard, along with several other cyclists.

Zingle managed to finish the stage, but the last one arrived, at 24 minutes and 5 seconds after Vingegaard. The medical checks carried out confirmed the unwanted team scenario, so that the French road, aged 26, will not be able to continue the competition.
