China on a peacekeeping mission in Ukraine? “Reports are untrue”

A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Guo Jiakun denied the reports of German media on Monday that Beijing signaled readiness to participate in potential international peace forces in Ukraine.

– I emphasize that such reports are untrue. China's position regarding the Ukrainian crisis is consistent and unambiguous – said Guo during regular briefing.

On Saturday, the portal of the weekly “Welt am Sonntag” donated, citing European diplomats, that China was to express interest in participating in such a mission, but provided that it would take place with the UN mandate.

Similar reports, also referring to EU diplomatic sources, this portal published at the end of March and then the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC also called them “completely untrue”

Last week, the possibility of China's participation in the peace forces was rejected by the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelnski, indicating that Beijing did not support Kiev, and instead helped Kremlin, “opening the drone market.”

On Friday, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mao Ning, asked to comment on this matter, did not refer directly to the issue of peace forces. She only argued that China was “ready to play a constructive role” in terms of striving for the political resolution of the issue of Ukraine.

China authorities declare a neutral attitude towards the full -fledged war against Ukraine, and they call the Kremlin invasion a “crisis in Ukraine.” Over the past three years, cooperation has been strengthened between Beijing and Moscow in many fields, including military. China also spend billions of dollars on the purchase of Russian oil.
