The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said in an interview for NBC News, that a group of several states, of which members of the UN Security Council will be part of the security of Ukraine. According to him, Germany, Turkey and other countries could also be part of the group.

Lavrov said, in the show “Meet the Press” at NBC News, that Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump discussed a possible security guarantee for Ukraine and that the Russian leader had discussed the negotiations from Istanbul on 2022.

At those negotiations, Russia and Ukraine discussed the permanent neutrality of Ukraine, in exchange for security guarantees offered by the five permanent members of the UN Security Council, namely the United Kingdom, China, France, Russia and the United States, as well as by other countries, according to a copy of a project consulted by Reuters in 2022.

“The guarantees would guarantee the security of Ukraine, which must be neutral, not to be aligned with any military block and to be non-nuclear,” said Lavrov, according to the transcript of the interview.

Lavrov also said that Ukraine's accession to NATO is unacceptable to Russia, that Moscow wants protection for Russian speakers in Ukraine and that a territorial discussion with Kiev must be held.

Also on Sunday, the head of Russian diplomacy has accused the Western countries of wanting to “prevent” peace negotiations for Ukraine.

“They only seek a pretext to prevent negotiations,” Lavrov said in an interview for public television Rossia, broadcast on Telegram on Sunday.

Lavrov also attacked Volodimir Zelenski, saying that he “stubbornly, puts conditions, asks, at any price, an immediate meeting” with Vladimir Putin, writes AFP, according to Agerpres.
