Russia announced on Sunday that it has conquered a village in the Ukrainian region (Northeast), which is bordering its territory and where it rarely claims advances, AFP reports.

The Russian Defense Ministry says in a statement that its soldiers have conquered the village of Basovka, very close to Russia, cites news.ro.

At the beginning of March, Moscow had already claimed the capture of a neighboring village, Nouvenke, which was a first incursion from the Russian withdrawal of 2022, even though Kiev later stated that his soldiers “rejected” the Russian troops in the area.

The Sumî region had been partially busy at the beginning of the Russian offensive three years ago, but the Russian troops withdrew in the spring of 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin had already stated in mid -February that his forces entered Ukraine in the Kursk region, even across the border, which Kiev had qualified as a “lie”.

Since then, Ukrainian officials have referred to isolated Russian attacks, claiming that they were rejected each time.

This statement regarding an advance in the Sumî region seems to be related to an advance of the Moscow army in the Kursk region, where the Ukrainian forces have launched an offensive in the summer of 2024.

The soldiers of Moscow managed to regain much of the territory conquered by Kyiv.

Currently, they are present only in a pocket of 80 km2, ie 6% of the maximum magnitude of the Ukrainian offensive in Russia, according to the AFP analysis of the data provided by the American Institute for War Study (ISW).
