The George Enescu International Festival starts today in Bucharest: 4,000 artists from 28 countries, in over 100 concerts

The Enescu Festival presents to the world the image of a sophisticated, mature, beautiful Romania, says conductor Cristian Măcelaru, artistic director of the festival.

What the 27th edition of the George Enescu International Festival, the most important cultural event of Romania and one of the most prestigious classical music festivals in the world begins in the Capital.

For four weeks, between August 24 and September 21, 2025, Bucharest becomes the world capital of classical music, bringing together over 4,000 artists from 28 countries, in over 100 concerts.

This year, the festival marks 70 years since George Enescu's eternity and proposes, under the artistic direction of Cristian Măcelaru, an edition built on three fundamental pillars, the Enescian tradition, the artistic innovation and the extension at the community level, through a wide series of concerts in numerous cities in Romania, but also through the new generations.

The festival offers spectacular news, since the launch of the Enescu Concert series in Control and Enescu – JTI Immersive Experience, until the work and ballet returns in the festival program.

At the 2025 edition, the public will be able to listen to more than 45 interpretations of George Enescu's works, from the famous Romanian raps to symphonies, orchestral suites, rare chamber works and, of course, the monumental work “Oedipe”, presented in a production signed by the visionary director Stefano Poda, with a prestigious distribution. The conductor Tiberiu Soare will lead the show-event, having distribution on Ruxandra Donose, Ionuț Pascu, Ramona Zaharia, Vazgen Gazari and other exceptional voices of the international lyrical scene.

More than 4,000 artists from 28 countries will climb the festival scenes, from legendary orchestras to young virtuos. Orchestras such as Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Tonhalle-Ochester Zurich, Orchestre of France, Czech Philharmonic, Budapest Festival Orchestra, WDR Symphony Orchestra, Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester, Bizantina Accaamia orchestra Santa Cecilia, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, Il Giardio Harmonico and many others bring to Bucharest the standard of excellence.

The 2025 edition widens the area of ​​Enescu Festival in several cities in Romania-Iași, Cluj-Napoca, Timișoara, Sibiu, Brașov, Constanța, Oradea, Arad, Târgu Mureș, Craiova, Satu Mare and other cultural centers-which become, for four weeks, scenes. In this way, the festival does not belong only to Bucharest, but to the whole country.

The Enescu Festival is organized by Artaxim, under the high patronage of the President of Romania and funded by the Government of Romania through the Ministry of Culture.

Tickets for concerts within the George Enescu International Festival can be purchased online, from the Eventim.ro platform, as well as in physical format, from the Carrefour hypermarket network and from the Cărturești and Humanitas bookstores.
