Texas approves a new election map. “He takes us to the dark times”

In voting, the Republicans won 88 to 52, despite the protests of democrats, who had previously left the state to prevent the quorum and thus delay the procedure of the act. During the debate, the Democrats who finally returned to Texas accused their rivals of “theft of voices” and pushing the “racist” map.
Deputy Ryan Guillen, who changed party colors and is currently a Republican, argued that Texas is only adapting to the standards in force in other states and has a chance to do what they have already done.
Democrats tried various strategies to block the act. One of them was a political maneuver, the so -called Gambit Gene's Wu from Houston, who proposed a correction making the entry into force of a new map of constituencies on the disclosure of the investigation files regarding Jeffrey Epstein, a deceased financier associated with prominent politicians, including Donald Trump and Bill Clinton. In this way, he wanted to draw attention to the lack of transparency and ethical doubts related to the legislative process. His application was rejected as irrelevant.
Minorities demand the map lock
The fact that the Republicans design new circles based on data from the census, taking into account people who are not US citizens who do not have the right to vote. Four of five new districts cover areas with a low indicator of citizens, which according to critics is an attempt to manipulate demographics for political benefits.
Democrat Ron Reynolds, a former chairman of the Texan Legislative African -American group, noted that despite the anniversary of the adoption of the Act on electoral rights, Texas “takes us back to those dark times.”
The League of United Latin American citizens and other organizations representing minorities are already preparing for court fighting. They demand blocking the map as “grossly inconsistent with the constitution.” The claim was submitted to the federal court.
The matter of the map of constituencies will also go to the Senate State Forum. Most in the High Chamber of Texan Parliament also belong to Republicans. In the event of a victory, the Republican Party will get a chance to win five additional places in complementary elections in 2026.
