– 7 years have passed since August 10, 2018, when Victoriei Square was a harsh intervention of the Gendarmerie. But is the file far from concluding? Can something else be done to have a solution in this file?

– The file 10 August, unlike the other historical files, which provide facts against life, is a normal, alive, prescriptive file, yes, the year will be fulfilled.

At the moment when the file arrived, from the point of view of the criminal prosecution, the idea was to raise the flies on the street chambers, from my acquaintances, never did this. The idea is that two years ago, a new colleague came to SPN, made the indictment, who was sent to the Military Court.

Our unit is the largest unity of everything that means the system of military parquet. People who follow us are that we have a file that we appreciate as important, but there are certain files that have another valence, where we give more than one ordinary file. In such a situation, neither would one of us pass through the head not to take the file to the end. The fact that this path has been chosen shows how much this cause is worth the management of the General Prosecutor's Office.

– What hope can the ordinary man have from the legal system?

-The man understands that the judicial system is not a certain consciousness power, but it is that component of the state power that protects it from the abuses of other powers. Then our role intervenes: we are that lever, that mechanism that, on the one hand, keep the other powers on their constitutional mattress and protect the citizen, but without competent people cannot be done.

– There is a public hostility to your field, which can be explained by such cases as August 10.

– Absolutely. Let's go back to the past, at GEO 13. At that time an offer was tried … let's not tell him. At that time there were outstanding amounts, many others, but nevertheless, the magistrates took a position and I protested broad on the operative disintegration of the judicial system. In that project were the provisions of Sinitre, to eliminate the use of road filming.

Then we came out, and a part of the population, that active population, with a certain degree of education, which realized that there would be no minimum to protect them.

In my unit, in 2023, I had a degree of occupancy of 23% of that reduced scheme, what performance can you do so? And it was not the only situation, there are packages that work now with a single man. If we can say that it works. And we are talking about prosecutor's offices next to the courts, not local. Others with 2 people. This aspect is not aware.

Bogdan Ciprian Pîrlog, known to the public as the prosecutor who initiated the ex officio investigation for the violence of August 10, 2018, will explain why the investigation has long delayed and if a prescription of the facts can be avoided.

On August 10, 2018, Victoriei Square was the scene of one of the most controversial interventions of the Gendarmerie: about 30,000 people were dispersed with over 489 tear grenades, 63 acoustic grenades and hundreds of irritating cartridges. The intervention, considered disproportionate by prosecutors, resulted in 433 injured.

The file was initially ranked in 2020 by DIICOT, reopened in the spring of 2022 after the appeals, and in October 2024 the Military Court of Appeal definitively decided to start the judgment on the merits. Moreover, after sending the court, the file stagnated for one year in the preliminary chamber, although the law provides for a maximum term of only two months in this phase.

Prosecutor Bogdan Pîrlog will also talk about the reform of the service pensions announced by Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan – increasing the retirement age at 65, increasing the minimum contribution period at 35 and capping the pension to 70% of the final net income. How does a military prosecutor see these changes and what impact do they think will have on justice?

Bogdan Pîrlog will also answer some of the questions asked by HotNews.ro readers. You can send the questions in a comment to this article, and the moderator will select some of them and ask the guest. Other questions from the public will be able to be transmitted live, in the YouTube comment section.
