“Donald Trump convinced Putin.” New reports about the meeting in Alaska

– I have to give the president great recognition because it is a breakthrough in American diplomacy. If you go back in time, this war has been going on for over three years […] And there was no significant breakthrough. And we for six months […] We worked intensively on breaking the deadlock. One of the most important deadlock was that Vladimir Putin said that he would never meet with Zelanski, the leader of Ukraine. And the president has now changed this – Vance said in an interview with Fox Business television. The conversation was published on Sunday, but recorded before the summit in Alaska.
Vance said that the schedule was set so that “these three leaders could sit down and discuss the end of this conflict.” He stated that the purpose of negotiations is to find a solution from which neither party would be happy, but which will be acceptable to them. The vice president who, as a senator, opposed the support of Ukraine, also announced that America had finished with the help of Ukraine financed by taxpayers, “but if Europeans want to get involved and actually buy weapons from American producers, we don't mind.”
Wołodymyr Zelanski will take part in the meeting in Alaska?
He also referred to the possible participation of the President of Ukraine in Alaska on Sunday in an interview with CNN Ambassador of the USA at NATO Matthew Whitaker, who stated that Zelanski's arrival is possible, but ultimately Donald Trump will make the decision in this matter if he decides that he would contribute to resolving the conflict.
When asked about Trump's comment that he would “exchange territories” between Russia and Ukraine and Zelanski's answer that he would not agree to the dedication of the land that Russia did not win, the diplomat replied:
– We have already seen it in the past in other contexts, where to develop a line to which both sides can agree, strategic elements are mentioned, which bring the benefits of each party to ensure effective defense of their territory – he said.
He added, however, that he was accepting Zelanski's comment, “that no large fragments would be given to, or sections that (Russians) (Russians) did not fight or gain on the battlefield.”
“Diplomacy requires various formats”
These issues were also commented on by the Ukrainian ambassador to the USA Oksana Markarov, who, however, did not clearly specify whether Zelanski would be in Alaska. “I can say that sometimes diplomacy requires various formats, various meetings,” she said in an interview with CBS television, adding that if it is needed, Zelnski will fly to the top.
A representative of the authorities in Kiev expressed the belief that taking into account Trump's recent actions, including sanctions at India, the American president would start talking from the position of strength and this would allow to achieve a suspension of weapons. When asked about the territorial changes, Marcarowa pointed to the constitution of Ukraine, which talks about the composition of the territory of the country.
– But we all understand the realities on the spot and we are ready to discuss how to end this war. That is why the suspension of the weapon, as a step forward, has always been so important to stop killing – something that President Trump laid on the table in February. Let's stop killing and get to diplomacy – she said.
