Deputy Prime Minister to the appeal for a discussion on the restoration of the province. Częstochowski referred on Friday on a press briefing with the participation of the President of Częstochowa Krzysztof Matyjaszczyk. Gawkowski, asked if there was space in the government to make such decisions, replied that he was not surprised that local governments are fighting for “their space” and “dignity” for residents.
– Częstochowa today is one of the largest cities in the country, an agglomeration that has several hundred thousand inhabitants and a sense of the fact that there was once a provincial city here. Return to this voivodship is probably for many this element of building social identity, which gives a sense of greatness of the city. So such initiatives will definitely appear in local government – noted the deputy prime minister.
– Certainly the Prime Minister, as such a field would be, will think about it if the entire administrative reform was planned. Those who do not start the topic are losing and those who are first on this map win. So Częstochowa started, work will take place. I think this is the future – he assessed.
He added that in this context it is good that Częstochowa cares about her interests. – If she didn't care, she would fail the inhabitants. And due to the fact that he cares and the intention of the president, as I understand, is to take care of the inhabitants, their ambitions, the government will also have to deal with it – concluded Krzysztof Gawkowski.
The President of Częstochowa clarified that the city wants to participate in the discussion about improving the administrative division of the country. – We would just like to be present with our arguments in this discussion, because if the government decides that we have to deal with this topic, we will simply be ready – declared Matyjaszczyk.

In the letter sent on Wednesday to the prime minister, the president of Częstochowa emphasized that it is currently the largest city in Poland, which is not the capital of the province. He pointed out that the restoration of the province Częstochowa would be a chance for the development of the city and the region.
“I regret to notice, however, that, like many other issues important for the inhabitants of Polish cities, also the matter of restoring the Częstochowa province often turns out to be only a political topic used during election campaigns” – wrote Matyjaszczyk.
In the appeal, which, apart from the president of Częstochowa, was signed by representatives of local associations and the new left, mentioned the effects of the liquidation of the province. Częstochowa, which in 1999 became part of the province. Silesia: marginalization of local power, lack of proportional investments, hiding regional identity in the shadow of Upper Silesia or distance from the decision center (Katowice).
